‘The Great Exhibition’ at Lichfield Cathedral was created by Artist and Sculptor Peter Walker. A new concept for bringing artwork to sacred spaces which saw Peter Walker as Artistic Director and artist in Residence develop for Lichfield Cathedral. This work spanned 7 years in total at Lichfield bringing exhibition quality artwork, installations, sound and light art, sculptures, paintings and interactive engagement and outreach for education to the Cathedral and City for the very first time.
I was able to record the events of the creative process, following the artists collaboration with all departments of the Cathedral and City involved, I had access to conduct participant observation and interviews with participants who engaged in all areas of the exhibition during development and delivery. The data collected helped to inform the Cathedral for further exhibitions, events and fundraising. Data was gathered during the exhibitions and events gathering feedback and responses to the artworks gaining insight into the social, economic, and geographic impact of creating art in sacred spaces.
